At Spud, our goal is to pack all of our orders in an environmentally sustainable way. This is why orders are packed in reusable plastic bins instead of plastic shopping bags. We will also reuse the ice packs and silver foil bags that keep your orders fresh and frozen for your delivery.

To assist us in this goal, we have a team on the ground dedicated solely to reclaiming materials sent back in our Spud bins. This hands-on department enables us to take action towards our sustainability goals in a new way: creating reverse logistical channels back to our suppliers and into new orders, prioritizing reuse over recycling.

Alberta

Our bins are cleaned and sanitized upon return using a commercial machine with a dual set up of Heavy Duty Liquid Detergent, Sanitizer, and Stain Remover. The bins are washed daily and stored upside down on plastic pallets to drip dry.

Our lids are cleaned, by hand, in a dual commercial grade sink with sprayer.

Our gel packs are soaked in a hot water and disinfectant solution in one sink, then hand washed and moved to a second sink for rinse and drip dry.

B.C.

Our bins, lids, and gel packs are cleaned in a similar bin washer. Hot water is used to wash at 65.5C (150F) and a rinse at 76.6C (170F). Everything is then air dried and spot checked for moisture before stacking.

In all regions, we use wash cloths supplied by Canadian Linen that are picked up weekly, stored in laundry bags when soiled, and replaced with new clean ones.

Our silver foil bags are cleaned using a spray cleaner and a clean wash cloth. Each bag is sprayed and wiped, inside and out.

We believe that zero single-use packaging is the ultimate goal and we are committed to pushing the boundaries around all packing materials to achieve that ultimate goal.
